Love Reign Care Foundation is a non-profit organization andservice-oriented organization established under Nigerian laws caring for the immediateneeds of vulnerable children, widows, and aged women by contributing basic amenities,shelter, health support, and developing awareness and understanding of the problemsencountered by widows in Niger Delta of Nigeria.

Overa decade, after world leaders gathered at the 1990 World Summit for Children to form ambitioustargets for developments in child health and welfare, life for tens of millions of Africa’schild and most vulnerable inhabitants remains difficult, dangerous, and, all too often, tragically short.

Africanchildren have the worst life chances in the world,” noted the past Organization of African Unity Secretary-GeneralSalim Ahmed Salim at a Pan-African Forum for Children in May 2001. “And the gap between the survival rates, windows can’t find Africa’s children and the children of othercontinents are increasing.”

Derogatory beliefs, superstitions, and taboos aroundwidows labor in rural communities. Widows who are not permitted to participate in community programs face social exclusion and harassment.

Inmany communities all over the world, it is impossible for widows to find employment, whether through prejudice or lack of skills. Resorting to find other ways to support themselves, often leads to child labor, prostitution, and other forms of exploitation. The Foundation’s empowerment program provides skills training, equipment, and funding to help widows become independent.

TheFoundation was formed to uphold the rights of children as stated in the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the status of widows’ rightson the international human rights agenda; partner with organizations and institutions which support widows in fighting for their rights.

TheOrganization believes that these issues can be addressed by reminding the governments of the respective roles and responsibilities they have to all children, and Influencing stakeholders on the need to support widows, andaged women’s welfare in achieving sustainable development.
